I’m in love with this inanimate object – the iHome iP4 is a boombox, iPod / iPhone dock that has all of the right fixings. While it’s a manic beast on the batteries (6 ‘D’ batteries that are not included…say what?), it’s a soft finish, colourful portable boombox, perfect for the beach (allegedly Jay-Z can attest to this), on the go, and for boasting some major cool factor with your friends.
The iP4 comes in three colours (why would you ever resort to black in this scenario?), features 5 band EQ (so, so visual), 4” carbon composite woofers (believe me, the sound you can savour), with FM radio and line-in option. Amazing. If you’re not big on batteries, opt for the AC adaptor, you’ll get more bang for your buck.
The beauty of this is that it’s compatible with many devices, and comes with a handy little remote control (though I have to admit, it does have a few issues with connectivity and reception. May require a few frustrated taps and fiddles to get it working).
No doubt about it…this thing is hulking and heavy. It’s not something you want to port along if you’re looking for an easy stroll in the park or romantic bike ride – it’s for serious get togethers and entertainment. The iP4 comes with a nylon strap that was more than confusing to attach (oops), but is something I’m proud to sport all around. Blue is best for people that want a little flair and don’t want to get too feminine (that pink is blindingly bubble gum). Symmetrical stylings, soft touch buttons, and a sturdy top handle have you almost convinced this could handle some rugged terrain.
How practical is the iP4 and how often will you find yourself using it? It’s definitely something for a casual office or occasions – possibly even your room if you have a tendency for urban flair. The pricing sits at $199.99, which is a solid chunk of change for something like this – a hard fact to consider.

All in all I’m impressed. The initial delight factor of this boombox had me in awe for a good few minutes. It’s easy on the eyes and ears, all I could ask for in an audio lifestyle product. I give this four out of five head nods.
