Over the holidays and into the new year I’ve found myself surrounded by gadgets – more specifically, the kind that have you fiddling with lights, features, and a plethora of subjects to snap. Don’t listen to what anyone says – cameras are a girl’s best friend. Here’s a walk through of three of my favourites that embody style and substance.
CANON POWERSHOT ELPH 100 HS
Touting compact and enviable style, this little wonder is a staple in the Canon lineup. Five of the freshest shades and a stunningly large screen, this 12.1 megapixel tiny beast is a force to be reckoned with. My absolute favourite function of this is how many filters come with this camera – standard lighting settings to fun features like toy camera effect and fish eye (think lomography).
OLYMPUS E-PM1
Power packed into petit professional photography (say that eight times fast). Not only is this camera a sturdy and sophisticated imaging system, but it’s got a beautiful visual elegance to the hardware. Simple to use, effortlessly beautiful pictures – the images are stunning with 6 in camera filters (take that, Instagram), and the versatility to play with lenses. Shrug on that strap and get ready to sashay with this bright and beautiful device. It’s priced at a premium, but for a semi-pro, this does the trick.
TOSHIBA CAMILEO BW10
Toshiba and I haven’t encountered one another in awhile, but I’m glad I had a chance to give this one a gander. Going the motion route, this little camcorder is a sports cam that leaves me nostalgic of being a teenager lusting after a sports walkman (same same but different…right?) Waterproof et weatherproof – not a bad deal to boast. Shooting at 1080p as a full HD video recorder, you have a handy YouTube partner in hand. I did find the product to be much lighter than expected and a bit grainy in capture and not so heavy on the details when it came to manual settings. Savvy with simplicity, I suppose.
THE PICK
The Canon had me at hello – from portability to accommodating my particularity with photos, this one did it for me. This could be the start of something beautiful.
