Arm candy, wrist party, teller of time…whatever you want to spin it as, a watch is a staple in your wardrobe. With the onslaught of summer I had an inkling to test a few out to see what would work best with sunny skies and warm weather. From menswear inspired to daintier in features, here are a few picks that I snagged from WATCH IT!, Swarovski, and good ol’ Macy’s.
Heavy Into Digital
The heavy weight of the pack comes designed by Swarovski and I’m madly in love with the digital display (imagine blue light crystals when a button is pressed). It’s a bracelet when left untouched, and a fully functional-in-the-dark accessory when told to be. Now, that’s a good watch. Runs quite a bit pricier (don’t be alarmed) at $1,500 (eeps). You might find it a bit tricky though – my skinny wrists don’t wear it too well, and the overall piece can feel a bit clunky because of the crystal weight. Not so easy to alter as the wrist strap is fairly uniform (no links). Love it for what it is.
White Hot
Marc by Marc Jacobs offers up a collection of vast variety and classic designs – the one I elbowed my way for was the Marc Mode Pelly, a beautiful white silicone topped watch. Fits snug, works like a dream – though a bit of a red flag when it comes to cleaning (though scratch resistant like no other…so far). Sans bells and whistles, this is a practical pick at only $200.
Funky Fresh
Nixon always does it well – I’m a fan of this alternative design (rhombus, anyone?) with a fresh coloured face (teal always was my colour). The face is a bit too clean for my liking when giving it a critical eye (I’m likely to be bumbling trying to find out the time…or looking at my phone), but the wristband is sturdy and at $200 it’s hard to mutter too much. Call it the ZONA.
The ‘Vintage’
Reminiscent of calculator watches (well, at least that’s what I thought of first), the Chalet model by Nixon is a sporty and clean piece. Three shades, and comes in leather or metal (the one pictured). It’s got a certain je-ne-sais quoi male quality. It’s a waterproofed one, with a butterfly closure that can cause a fumble or two when not careful. A dominant pick at $250.
